Colts sign OL Slauson, re-sign OL Mewhort

Offensive lineman Matt Slauson signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday.

The Colts also retain offensive guard Jack Mewhort, who agreed to a one-year deal and returns for his fifth season in Indianapolis. The Colts drafted Mewhort in the second round in 2014.

Slauson is likely to play guard with Ryan Kelly at center, but the versatile veteran has started at three positions on the offensive line. He started seven games at guard last season (16 at center in 2016) for the Chargers before a season-ending biceps injury.

Slauson rejoins offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni, who spent the last two seasons as the Chargers' wide receivers coach.

Mewhort missed 11 games last season after a season-ending knee injury and battled injuries in 2016.

The Colts allowed an NFL-high 56 sacks last season and set the front five as a top priority this offseason.

Owner Jim Irsay announced the Slauson deal in a welcome via Twitter.
