Tropical Storm Hermine continues to strengthen over eastern Gulf of Mexico- NHC

Aug 31 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Hermine continues to strengthen over the eastern Gulf of Mexico and hurricane warning was issued for portion of northwestern Florida, the NHC said in its advisory late Wednesday.

The system was located about 315 miles (510 kilometer) west-southwest of Tampa Florida with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 km/h), the Miami-based weather forecaster said.

The NHC said additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 to 36 hours, and Hermine is expected to be a hurricane by the time landfall occurs.

Interests along the United States east coast elsewhere in the Carolinas should monitor the progress of this system, the NHC added. (Reporting by Karen Rodrigues in Bengaluru; Editing by Himani Sarkar)
