Gaston weakens into tropical storm, says U.S. hurricane forecaster

Aug 25 (Reuters) - Hurricane Gaston has weakened into a tropical storm over the central Atlantic, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its latest advisory on Thursday.

The system, with maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour (110 km per hour), is located about 1,160 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands, the Miami-based weather forecaster said.

Gaston could gather strength beginning Friday night and become a hurricane again on Saturday, the forecaster added. (Reporting by Apeksha Nair in Bengaluru; Editing by Jeffrey Benkoe)
