The Senegalese Tirailleurs were a corps of colonial infantry in the French Army recruited from Senegal. In April 1916, French military authorities had set a camp in Teste-de-Buch to acclimate colonial troops to European weather. Nearly 70.000 tirailleurs between April 1916 and September 1917 will pass through the 400 huts of the camp. / AFP PHOTO / GEORGES GOBETGEORGES GOBET/AFP/Getty Images
