As most parts of the Philippines suffering from drought were placed under a state of calamity, many still thrive and continue business with the help of bigger a bigger capital. "There may be drought but with if you have money, you can still get a good harvest," says Fred Lomibao, a banana farm worker, saying that his boss pays extra to get water for the banana plants from a nearby source. The heatwave brought on by the El Nino weather phenomenon has severely affected food and water supplies in many countries. Based on reports, 85 percent of the whole Philippines will experience the effects of the drought and around 12 million Filipinos who rely on agriculture will directly be affected. In southern Philippines, where farmers lacked agricultural infrastructures and farming subsidies, the population faced impending hunger during the drought and two demonstrators were left dead and dozens of people injured after police dispersed thousands of drought-hit farmers in early April.
