Pedro Almodovar's Julieta is Spain's official Oscars entry
Filmmaker Pedro Almodovar will be aiming for his third Oscar in 2017 after his movie Julieta was selected as the official foreign language entry for his native Spain.
The drama was chosen by members of the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ahead of Iciar Bollain's The Olive Tree and Paula Ortiz's The Bride.
Julieta, an adaptation of three short stories by author Alice Munro, stars Adriana Ugarte, Emma Suarez, and Dario Grandinetti in a story about a mother who has to deal with a constant sense of loss, reports Variety.com.
The film opened in Spain in April (16), but will not hit U.S. cinemas until December (16), when it is released through Sony Pictures Classics.
He previously won the Best Foreign Language Film title in 1999 for All About My Mother, and took home the Best Original Screenplay honor in 2002 for Talk To Her.
Spain's last Foreign Language win came in 2004, when Alejandro Amenabar's The Sea Inside took home gold.
