Eddie Murphy: 'I hate reading anything negative about myself'

Eddie Murphy has abandoned technology because he refuses to read anything negative about himself.

The Beverly Hills Cop star used to be a computer nerd but now he doesn't own one because he cannot avoid reading bad reviews and gossip.

"I used to be the hippest of them all," he tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I used to know everything about everything. I used to read about everything that was going on and I knew everybody's name and anybody in pop culture. Anything that was written about me I would read.

"For the last maybe 20 years I haven't read a newspaper or read a corporate magazine. If there's an article about me, someone has to read through it before they even give it to me. I don't want to see anything that has anything negative. I don't want to read any of that s**t.

"I don't have a computer, I don't have email. I don't have any of that s**t."

In the same interview, Eddie reveals he once turned down a night of drug abuse with late pals John Belushi and Robin Williams: "Belushi and Robin Williams offered me some blow and I didn't take it, and Belushi called me a 'tighta**.'"

And the movie star insists he's much cleaner than people think he is: "I don't drink. I don't have, like, this moral thing about it, I just don't do it. And I didn't get high."
