Shah Rukh Khan jokes about being detained at Los Angeles airport
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was detained for questioning by immigration officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Thursday evening (11Aug16).
The Indian actor, 50, took to Twitter to complain about the inconvenience the extra screening had caused him, especially as it was not the first time he'd encountered the issue upon arrival to the U.S.
"I fully understand & respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really really sucks," he tweeted, before positively noting the delay gave him time to play popular phone game Pokemon Go. "The brighter side is while waiting (I) caught some really nice Pokemons."
Nisha Biswal, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, U.S. Department of State apologized for the hassle and U.S. ambassador to India Richard Verma tweeted his team we were working to "ensure it doesn't happen again".
Khan replied to both with similar messages, tweeting, "No trouble sir, respect the protocol & not expecting 2 b (to be) above it. It’s just a tad inconvenient. Thx (thanks) for ur concern (sic)."
The Lagaan star had previously been detained for more than two hours upon arrival in New York in 2012 and New Jersey in 2009, when his name appeared on a computer alert list. He joked about the 2012 incident while in the U.S. at the time, saying, "Whenever I start feeling arrogant about myself, I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kick the star out of stardom," according to the BBC.
