PETA urges Zoo show to stop using real animals
Bosses at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are urging executives behind TV drama Zoo to stop using real creatures.
The series, about a global animal attack on humans, has recently been renewed for a third season, prompting bosses at the organization to urge producers to change their ways and use computer graphic imagery instead of real animals.
"If The Walking Dead can use animatronics and computer-generated imagery (CGI) to stun audiences with the image of a tiger and not use a real animal, so can Zoo," a statement reads. "From CGI ants and cockroaches to a beautifully conceived CGI panther, CBS has proved that it can produce the show without using live animals."
"With rampant animal abuse in the industry, the network is obligated to do its part to help end it, and if it agrees to use only CGI next season, PETA staff, members, and supporters will be the first to tune in," it continues.
Executives at the organization have hit out at the show's bosses in the past.
The series is based on James Patterson's novel of the same name.
