Marine Entertainment
By Dawn Gordon Luks
With the warm weather and calm seas already here, there's nothing better than cruising with friends and family - and a boat-friendly entertainment system makes the experience complete. There are marine receivers and speakers available that are specifically designed for these harsh and rigorous environments, so get out those Jimmy Buffet CDs and have a margarita good time.
Jensen MSR3007 Receiver ($159.99) www.jensenmarinedirect.com
The latest generation of Jensen's marine line features a new look with a blue backlit LCD display. This unit has the usual AM/FM tuner and CD player complement, plus 160 watts of power, a Sirius satellite-ready design (tuner sold separately); iPod control with an optional adapter, and a front mounted aux input for use with MP3 players. Other features include electronic skip protection and compatibility with Jensen's optional wired stereo remote controls.
Clarion M309 Receiver ($349.99) www.clarion.com
The Clarion M309 is a watertight heavy-duty CD receiver engineered to take on the spray, salt, and fog, and just keep going. Connect your iPod's USB cable to M309's rear USB Input and you get complete key control of your iPod including genre/album/song title search. If you're iPod-less you can connect a USB stick filled with your favorite tunes. The M309 is satellite-ready and includes the following features:
- CD-DA/CD-R/RW-ready
- MP3, WMA, and iTunes AAC compatible with ID3-TAG display
- 18 FM and 6 AM presets
- Front 3.5mm and rear aux inputs with level control
- 13 x 10 2-line high visibility LCD
- 6ch RCA output
- 50w x 4
- Built-in IR eye
- Bluetooth interface-ready (optional BLT370)
- Wired remote control (optional MW1/2)-ready
- Wireless remote included
Clarion CMV1 DVD/CD/USB Receiver ($799.99) www.clarion.com
Take the fun onto the water with Clarion's CMV1 marine DVD receiver. This robust marine receiver meets or exceeds strict UV and salt/fog exposure guidelines, and boasts a watertight flip-down front panel to protect it from the elements and stray splashes.
The CMV1's CD/DVD player will handle regular audio CDs and video DVDs, plus recordable CDs and DVDs loaded with MP3, WMA, and AAC files. And the CMV1 will play DVDs burned with DivX media files, too. A rear USB input supports flash memory, as well as iPod connection and control. An optional adapter allows you to view iPod video on the receiver's screen. There's also an auxiliary input for connecting other audio sources, and two video outputs let you add external monitors.
- 17 watts per channel x 4
- Flip-down face with 3.5" color LCD screen
- Wireless remote control included (optional wired remote available)
- 3-band parametric equalizer
- Works with Clarion Bluetooth adapter, satellite radio, iPod video adapter

JBL MS6200 ($150 pair) www.jbl.com
