Lochte robbed in taxi hold-up after leaving party, friend says
U.S. gold medal swimmer Ryan Lochte was robbed in a taxi hold-up in Rio de Janeiro after leaving a party where he had been celebrating the end of the Olympic swimming program, he told fellow competitor Thiago Pereira. A spokesman for Brazilian Pereira told Reuters on Sunday Pereira had called Lochte after hearing reports the U.S. swimmer had been the victim of a gun-point robbery the night before.
Marathon: U.S.'s Linden can wear Rio T-shirt with pride
U.S. marathon runner Desiree Linden has been there, done that and can now wear the T-shirt with pride. After dropping out of the Olympic marathon in London four years ago, Linden, 33, hung on on Sunday to finish in a seventh-place two hours, 26 minutes and eight seconds. The result allows her to let go of the bad 2012 memories, which had left her reluctant to describe herself as an Olympian, she said.
United States wins 1,000th Olympic gold medal
The United States won its 1,000th Olympic gold medal on Saturday when the American women's 4x100 meter medley relay team clinched victory at the Rio Games. The honor of reaching the milestone was shared by Kathleen Baker, Lilly King, Dana Vollmer and Simone Manuel, who got to the wall first ahead of Australia.
