Report: Ex-Panthers RB Stewart visiting Seahawks

Former Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is visiting the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, according to a report from NFL Network. Stewart was released by Carolina last week.

The 30-year-old, who will turn 31 later this month, ran for 680 yards on a career-low 3.4 yards per attempt in the 2017 season, scoring six touchdowns on the ground. He holds the Panthers' franchise records for career rushing yards (7,318) and carries (1,699) across his 10 NFL seasons, all of which have been spent with Carolina.

Stewart reached 800 yards rushing in each of his previous three seasons and was named a Pro Bowler in 2015.

The Seahawks are desperately looking to improve their run game this offseason after quarterback Russell Wilson led the team with 586 rushing yards last season. Mike Davis was Seattle's top back, accumulating 240 yards on the ground.

While adding offense is likely in focus for Seattle, the team's defense is in the midst of a revamp as well. Defensive end Michael Bennett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, cornerback Richard Sherman is reportedly expected to be released this week and safety Kam Chancellor and defensive end Cliff Avril are unlikely to return following neck injuries.
