Obama says Trump will receive security briefings as required by law

WASHINGTON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Thursday Donald Trump will get national security briefings as required by law ahead of the election, but warned that the information in the briefings must be kept secret.

"We are going to go by the law," Obama said in a press conference about briefings Trump will get ahead of the Nov. 8 election. "If someone is the nominee, the Republican nominee for president, they need to get security briefings so that if they are to win they are not starting from scratch in terms of being prepared for this office," he said.

"If they want to be president they've got to start acting like president and that means being able to receive these briefings and not spread them around," Obama said. (Reporting by Timothy Gardner; Editing by James Dalgleish)
