Jesse Williams fronts app that helps students find college scholarships
Actor Jesse Williams has teamed up with the makers of a mobile app to help underprivileged students find college scholarships.
The Grey’s Anatomy star has become the chief brand ambassador, and a member of the advisory board, of Scholly, in an effort to make access to a college education equal for everyone.
Williams was inspired to join the project by his experiences as a public school teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he would see his students' dreams of going to college fade because they couldn't afford it.
He says in a video, "Like so many teachers across this country I had to watch countless bright, talented, ambitious, smart students unable to even sniff their true potential because they weren't born into this web of resources that were necessary to thrive in this rigged system."
The app, which matches students with "untapped millions" in college scholarships every year, was created by Christopher Gray, who won investment money on U.S. reality show Shark Tank in 2014.
"There is no substitute for equal access and there is certainly no substitute for a quality education. Scholly helps us get there, together," Williams adds.
