Lil Wayne hints at retirement after police called as hoax

Lil Wayne hinted he was retiring on social media hours after police visited his home in Florida following false reports of a shooting.

The rapper, real name Dwayne Carter, Jr., took to Twitter on Saturday (03Sep16) and worried his fans and fellow hip-hop artists with a series of tweets that hinted he may be considering retiring.

"I AM NOW DEFENSELESS AND mentally DEFEATED & I leave gracefully and thankful I luh (love) my fanz but I'm dun (sic)," Wayne wrote.

"Ain't (sic) lookin for sympathy, just serenity," he posted a few hours later, before trying to clarify his tweets by writing, "I'm good y'all (sic), don't trip."

The tweets come after police in Miami, Florida, were called to the 33-year-old's home on Friday (02Sep16) following reports of a shooting.

It was later confirmed to be a hoax call - the second time this has happened to the rapper in almost 18 months, according to Us Weekly.

"Luv (sic) to the miami PD for always being alert, attentive, & appropriate. Thk u (sic)," he wrote after police visited his property.

It's unclear if his hint at retirement is linked to the incident on Friday.

Missy Elliott reached out after the rapper's distressed tweets, and wrote, "Prayers up 4 whatever u (sic) may be enduring right now this to will pass & may u find PEACE. I will always be a fan of your work."

Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper tweeted Wayne: "Dear @LilTunechi I just wanna (sic) remind you that absolutely nothing and no one in this world can defeat you. Tell them devils back back."

Lupe Fiasco also joined the hip-hop stars coming out to support Lil Wayne, and posted, "I hope you find some solace in the act of creating and continue to practice in some capacity the art which you helped progress @LilTunechi."

Wayne is currently embroiled in a legal battle with his former mentor Bryan 'Birdman' Williams after the rapper claimed the Cash Money Records boss had withheld money allegedly owed to him for his long-delayed album Tha Carter V.

The hip-hop star filed the $51 million suit against Williams in January, 2015. He blamed label executives for preventing the project's release and told his fans on Twitter he was being held "prisoner" by Cash Money chiefs and wanted out of his contract.

The case continues.
