Foals have played every gig drunk

British rockers Foals have never played a gig sober in their decade together.

The indie rockers formed in Oxford, England in 2005 and quickly built a reputation around the city by performing at wild house parties.

And frontman Yannis Philippakis says that despite their international stardom meaning that they've moved on to playing arenas, the band have still never performed a gig live where they've not been drunk.

"We've never played a gig fully sober," Yannis tells Britain's ShortList magazine. "There's a part of me that'd like to do it sober. I just don't know whether it would be any good. Most nights are mental."

The group's party lifestyle has caused organisational problems, notably last year (15) when he missed a flight home to the U.K. from Bucharest, Romania due to being out partying with fellow Brit rockers The Maccabees.

Despite being left stranded in Eastern Europe, the Cassius singer admits he has no plans to quit the booze any time soon.

"I missed a flight recently because we were drunk," he smiled. "In terms of how we operate, it's not a problem, but booze is imbued in the band because we started out playing house parties. And anyway, I've got the rest of my life to clean up."

At gigs, the band receive so much free alcohol on their rider that they are considering selling it on to couples celebrating their wedding.

"Our rider is pretty boozy," he says. "It's an inhuman amount of alcohol to be drinking. At the end of a tour the bus pulls back up in London and you could throw 40 parties and a couple of weddings off it.

"All the champagne gets smashed pretty quickly but there's lots of bourbon and beer left over. We were thinking about starting a wedding catering business on the side."
