Brie Larson making directorial debut
Brie Larson will step behind the camera to make her feature film directorial debut on comedy Unicorn Store.
The Oscar-winning Room star will also produce and star in the film about a woman who moves home to live with her parents.
The movie was originally set to star Rebel Wilson with director Miguel Arteta taking charge of the project, but scheduling issues for both torpedoed the film. It was then brought to Brie after she won the Best Actress Academy Award earlier this year (16), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie is slated to begin production in October (16).
The 26-year-old previously co-wrote and co-directed the short film, The Arm, which won the jury prize at Sundance in 2012.
Brie is keeping busy on the big screen and will be taking on the role of Captain Marvel in 2019. Brie's character, Carol Danvers, was created in 1968, appearing in the Captain Marvel comic books as an American security officer working alongside Captain Mar-Vell, an alien, sent to study the planet Earth. The superhero has been depicted as both a male and female character in the comic books.
Entertainment Weekly reported the character almost appeared at the end of 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, but no actress had been cast in the role.
It will be the first superhero movie for Brie, who has previously appeared in comedies such as 21 Jump Street and Trainwreck.
The actress will also appear in Kong: Skull Island next year (17).
