Lil Wayne royalties lawsuit put on hold - report
Lil Wayne's lawsuit against bosses at Universal Music Group (UMG) and SoundExchange has reportedly been put on hold.
The hip-hop star, real name Dwayne Carter, Jr., and his attorneys filed a federal lawsuit in California in March (16), claiming he is owed millions in profits for discovering and mentoring artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga.
In the legal documents, Wayne accused executives at UMG and royalties trust SoundExchange of diverting profits into their own accounts as a way to repay themselves for the $100 million they advanced the rapper under his label Cash Money Records, Inc., which is owned by UMG.
He is seeking at least $40 million in damages and overdue profits, as well as a "judgment declaring the parties' respective rights with regard to Plaintiffs' share of label performance royalties."
However, the lawsuit has reportedly been put on hold so the Lollipop star can resolve his legal issues with his Cash Money Records boss Bryan 'Birdman' Williams, according to Billboard.com.
In January, 2015, Carter filed a $51 million suit against Williams, accusing him of of failing to pay money allegedly owed to him for his long-delayed album Tha Carter V, which was originally set for release in 2014.
