CORRECTED-Venezuela names new economy vice president
(Corrects Faria's new title in headline and first paragraph)
CARACAS, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Wednesday named Carlos Faria as the country's new economy vice president, replacing a man seen as a relative pragmatist.
Faria, also named industry minister on Tuesday, will take over from Miguel Perez, a former business leader who had advocated for a reform of Venezuela's Byzantine currency controls.
Perez had been viewed by economists and investors as a possible catalyst for reforms to the state-led economic model.
His successor, Faria, was vice president for industry before taking on his new roles.
The OPEC nation's economy is in turmoil, with triple-digit inflation and shortages of the most basic goods.
The country's opposition is calling for a recall referendum against Maduro. (Reporting by Eyanir Chinea; Writing by Girish Gupta; Editing by Sam Holmes)
