Democrats predict health bill will pass House
WASHINGTON (AP) - A pair of House Democratic leaders predicted Sunday the final tally on President Barack Obama's historic health care bill will meet or exceed the 216 votes required for passage. But they acknowledged having yet to nail down commitments from a handful of members, some of whom remained concerned about the abortion issue. Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., said he was one of about a half-dozen anti-abortion Democrats who were working out language for a presidential executive order that would provide more assurances that no public money would be used for elective abortions. British Airways cabin crews strike for 2nd day
LONDON (AP) - British Airways cabin crews walked off the job for a second day Sunday, upsetting travel plans for scores of customers, but the airline said its contingency plans were working well and more planes were taking off than expected. The airline - locked in a bitter dispute with workers over a pay freeze and changing working conditions - was forced to cancel or delay hundreds of flights over the weekend as cabin crew launched a three-day strike after negotiations collapsed on Friday. Dubai watchdog hits Mideast jeweler with sanctions
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Middle East jewelry retailer Damas International Ltd. was penalized Sunday by a Dubai watchdog for improper financial dealings and lax corporate oversight in the regulator's strongest action to date. The sanctions imposed by the Dubai Financial Services Authority include the resignation of the company's entire board of directors, fines totaling $3.7 million and voluntary bans on the three brothers who oversaw the family-run business.
