Mainstream opposition says Syrian deal could end civilians' ordeal

AMMAN, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Syria's mainstream opposition said on Saturday the proposed U.S.-Russian deal could eventually end the ordeal of civilians, in its first reaction to the agreement.

Bassma Kodmani, spokeswoman for the opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC), said the body welcomed the deal "if it is going to be enforced." The onus was on Russia as its influence "was the only way to get the regime to comply," her statement added. (Reporting by Suleiman Al-Khalidi; Editing by Andrew Heavens)
