Britain will seek unique deal with EU - PM May's spokeswoman
LONDON, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Britain will seek a unique relationship with the European Union that involves controls on immigration but is also a good deal for trade in goods and services, a spokeswoman for Prime Minister Theresa May said.
May gathered her team of top ministers on Wednesday for the first time since she asked them to use the summer break to come up with options for Britain's future ties with the bloc after it leaves.
"Several cabinet members made it clear that we are leaving the EU but not leaving Europe, with a decisive view that the model we are seeking is one unique to the United Kingdom and not an off-the-shelf solution," the spokeswoman said in a statement.
"This must mean controls on the numbers of people who come to Britain from Europe but also a positive outcome for those who wish to trade goods and services." (Reporting by Kylie MacLellan; editing by Stephen Addison)
