Man sought in police killing in serious condition

SEATTLE (AP) - A man sought by police in the Halloween killing of a Seattle police officer is in serious condition after being shot by detectives investigating the case.

Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson says Saturday morning the man in is an intensive care unit following surgery Friday night. He arrived at the hospital in critical condition.

Seattle detectives were pursuing a tip in the case Friday at an apartment complex in the south Seattle suburb of Tukwila. Police say the suspect fled when approached by detectives outside the building, but was quickly boxed in. Three detectives opened fire when the man drew a handgun.

Seattle police Officer Timothy Brenton was shot and killed as he sat in a car after a traffic stop on Oct. 31.
