Think Outside the Bedroom
If you want to really open the doors to your sexual potential, start with the door to your bedroom. Getting busy in a less-than-private locale gives your love life a boost with variety and the erotic thrill of exhibitionism.
In fact, a study in the Journal of Neuroscience reveals that the part of the brain associated with pleasure responds more to unexpected treats than to the predictable kind. And you can't get more unexpected than suggesting a little under-the-table action over dinner.
While the risk of getting caught is half the fun - actually getting caught is a real libido buster. Here's how to bust a move without getting busted.
Public Pointer #1: Know Your Limits
Sometimes just a little dare will do ya. Make out on a few park benches, but retreat to the privacy of your own home once things start heating up. If you're camping, keep it to your tent or RV (remembering to keep your voices down, especially in family-friendly parks). Or just stage a playful picnic in the privacy of your own backyard.
Public Pointer #2: Scope Out Seclusion
When you're ready to move on to riskier locales, use your smarts. Indecent exposure is illegal in all 50 states, so unless you want to spend a year in the slammer, don't decide to try out sex on the beach in full view of a hundred families on the 4th of July weekend. Check out even the most secluded spots to assure you can't be seen. A good rule of thumb: If you can still hear people, you're too close.
Public Pointer #3: Dress the Part
Off-road sex doesn't leave lovers with plenty of time to leisurely undress, so wear clothes that are easy-on/easy-off, or that can be unzipped, pulled up or pushed over to provide access. Pack a blanket to lie on, and one to throw over you just in case you're surprised by passersby, lifeguards or an Eagle Scout troop. While you're packing protection, don't forget the sun block and insect repellent.
Public Pointer #4: Chose Your Location Wisely
Here's what you didn't see in the movie "From Here to Eternity": the introduction of water-borne diseases and parasites to compromising areas. Even the hot tub at your vacation hotel is suspect; all that sexy steaming water makes a great incubator for bacteria. Even if you're staying on dry ground, you'll still need to choose your real estate wisely. Stinging nettles, poison ivy, oak and sumac are unforgiving on fornicating couples.
