my dead mother

Pretty, sweet, carefree just like a butterfly
Giving everything she had to live life
As we watched her life dissolve by and by
Pregnant at 15 she was never a wife
Drugs and alcohol were her best of friends
Giving away her life which could have been good
Her consequence seemed to never end
The people she dated were from the hood
It was that one sad day by the train tracks
She was so wasted it was all just a blur
One more second it would be black
Her speech would no longer slur
It wasn’t until two months later that
I realized my life wouldn’t be the same
