The Check-Out Chic
by gypsy thief

I am the check-out chic at the your local grocery store.
Trust me. For my life, I wanted so much more.
I was married. Now divorced mom of two.
I slept with someone's husband once.
And you have the nerve to call me a whore?

I am the check-out chic at the grocery store.
There is a lot of work. So much to do.
There are mornings when I feel so damn blue.
I did attend college...just like I was told to.
But I ran out of tuition money.
Got a dime to spare honey?

I am the check-out chic at your grocery store.
Your eyes don't see me. I'm overlooked.
There was a time when I spent my time reading
many books.
Let me tell you...education holds the key.

I am the check-out chic at the grocery store.
Now I can only wish for so much more.
