Poetry: Bitter Poetry
Iron Helen
by Robert Broerse

And so you came
Like metal and armies from the north,
Iron and blade and blood red
Your cheeks... your lips....

In my empire, you are all I have longed
To conquer, playing into my hand
To cause cities to fall, mothers to become
Whores and children to steal...to become
Soldiers...

When once your mother was the earth,
When once man and woman were in harmony
You have come from the darkest height
And lead us into our plagues,
Taken over I am blind...

Unlike first Venus, unlike the fresh foam
Of an ocean's birth, you have brought
Only the waste to the sea;
Your love is only a challenge to power,
