I am Fat
by Valerie McCutchen

Do you know me?
I am Fat.
I’d like to be skinny…
Then I open the fridge
and there goes that.

Do you know me?
I am Fat.
I used to be skinny.
Not because I was lucky enough to "just be that way"…
It was because I didn’t want to be fat.

Before I was skinny I went on a big diet
And my stomach shrank—but not my eyes.
That’s quite evident now, just look at my
Thighs!

I went to the ice-cream stand and drank diet soda.
I went to the gym and tread milled ova and ova.
I never ate candy or anything fried.
And it sure paid off—you should have seen my thighs.

I used to be skinny way back then.
I used to be able to laugh at a size 10.
Now I wonder if 10 will even talk to me?
I’ll have to ask 12 cause she’s not done with me you see.

Do you know me?
I am Fat.
I am sad and frustrated…
Oh! and always hungry…let’s not forget about that.
