Eyes Without Life
by Cliff Lawrence
Rain pouring down outside and I close my eyes,
Drifting away in the emptiness of the day,
Knowing this is the life chosen for me.
Not one of riches or forever love will I cherish,
This loneliness of waking up in a world of sadness,
Seeing children being hurt from loveless marriages.
Our father who art in heaven why must they suffer so,
When inside small eyes so much heartache is reflected,
Neglected and alone little tears are shed from desperation?
Drifting away in a world of cruelty searching for truth,
Not understanding how the Lord has been cast out of lives,
And sin and destruction is the battle cry I'm now hearing.
Can't help these feelings as I look out into the pouring rain,
Eyes closed as I sigh knowing I can't make a difference,
Heartless world I was given the day I took my first breath.
Small child playing alone in over grown yard with bruises,
Her daddy came home drunk again and mommy lies crying,
Battered child doesn't show any emotion behind eyes that died.
Can't see through the falling rain outside why children hurt so,
Small hearts full of love just needing love and understanding,
Walking through the day so silently from fear of speaking.
Torn teddy bear sowed so many times the stuffing is almost gone,
But tender voice whispers one day love will come our way,
As a hug is given and eyes without life walks sadly away.
