Poetry: Bitter Poetry
A Dream Of A Battered Woman
by Nina

I woke up one day into a bright light
The light was so strong I had to shut my eyes
I went to the living room and saw my mother
She was holding on to both of my daughters
They looked as if they had been crying
They acted as if someone was dying
I didn't know what to do
I asked my daughter "What's wrong with you boo"
But she acted as if she didn't hear me
And then my mother fell to her knees
Asking God and begging him please
Why would you let this happen to me
I go first then comes them
Why did you give the power to him
She demanded him to answer as to why
It hurt me so much to watch her cry
But still confused I asked what happened
But no one would answer to my question
I went outside and sat for a while
And my sister came out holding my child
She said to her " I know you feel ripped and sad"
"Your sister and you were the only true love your mother had"
"She all ways loved you and will live in your heart"
"That is the one thing that no one could tear apart"
My daughter said "But she lied to me"
"She all ways said that she wouldn't leave"
"But now she's gone and left us alone"
"When it's right here that she belongs"
I yelled out "I'm here what are you all saying"
"Please say it's a joke, that you all just playing"
So I went back inside and looked around
And I couldn't believe what I found
Flower arrangements saying "Rest In Peace"
And that's when I realized they were for me
I was in such a shock
My mouth litterly dropped
I was dead when I thought I was alive
And then I remembered what happened that night
I was in the bathroom taking a shower
Ready to go and pick up my daughters
As I came out he was standing there
My heart jumped in such great fear
He laughed and said "I told you, I'm untouchable"
"No one can help you, I'm unstoppable"
I tried to run and get away
But he caught me and punched me straight to my head
He then started choking me from behind
And said "Remember this, let me refresh your mind"
I couldn't breath, I tried to fight
But my arms got weak and my head felt light
I knew it was over this time
this man was finally taking my life
But before he killed me he had a gift
A rose with thorns and placed it between my lips
My tears came down as everything started fading
And my last words were "God take care of my babies"
"They were my two only true love"
"They filled me with kisses and gentle hugs"
"Keep them safe and away from all harm"
"And don't let them fall for just any mans charm"
"Or they might wind up just like me"
"And recieve their last flowers saying "Rest In Peace"
