Who I Am
by Miata
Note: This is dedicated to my country, Sierra Leone, West Africa, and also to my wonderful family that still lives there.
I am from generations of struggle and despair.
I am the "Motherland."
I am the dusty roads that
lead to the muddy huts.
But, I am also blessed with
diamonds and many other
natural wonders.
I am full of rituals,
Dancing with the living and the dead.
In the eyes of others,
I am the race with no
knowledge or intellect.
I am the race of inferiority.
I am the race with no civilization.
I am the race of polytheism.
However,
In my eyes,
I am not one color,
But instead mysterious
and difficult to identify.
I am not always curly, soft
and light skinned,
But instead straight, coarse,
with lovely dark brown skin.
I am a native,
And I am responsible for
passing down the culture.
Although I am modernized,
I am still a Nubian Queen
With great love from my royal family.
And today,
I am the fruit of their labor.
I am the key to their golden box.
I am the future of their past.
I am their only hope to success.
I am the creator of the new
generation
But again,
I was, still am and always will be generations of struggle and despair.
