Poetry: Lust & Passion
I shared with Duke
by Karen Browne

Watching shadows dance along a caramel colored wall
I gaze.
Tempo of an old love song runs through my body
And I am moved shoulders shaking, hips gyrating
The music we shared of last night the cold touch of dead fingers brought
To life to the touch of my glimmering skin
An intimate look between lovers draws me in like the tumbling ocean waves of an overcast sky
The taste of pleasure drips gently through my body’
Wait the tempo dropped
Deep valleys of honey kissed hills and the promise of high echoes
Wooing almond souls to last all night
Lightly sprinkled sugar touch my lips
Neck
Cheek
Vision of Aphrodite playing tricks with her wand of gold
Various shades of different hues of brown tightly connected to the art
Of a man’s shadow
Call me crazy but it has to be the electric vibe
Objects moving in a rhythmic pattern each cloud above casting parts
In a movie called love
The tempo fades and I am left with a cool breeze brushing my hair across a
Face painted with anxiety, pores left open from a replenishing shower
Of mellow harmony the saxophone reminiscent of far away tunes drifting
Duke Ellington to sing my song
Eyes closed I say mind focused I think I can still hear the lull of happy laughter
After the song shakes me into a serene state-

Last night I was the final string on that base guitar playing pulse by pulse
The feeling of an old school jam resurrected
