Petals of a Rose
by Sean Havens
When you first loved me
I found it hard to believe
That a woman with lips like those
Could do anything but deceive.
But you took my heart
And you opened its rusty lock
You taught me to love
How to soar like a hawk.
And before we first kissed
You said I could never impose
And as I pressed my lips to yours
I felt the petals of a rose.
The leaves will soon fall from the trees
And the flowers will wilt away
Yet my love for you, my sweet,
Shall grow stronger every day.
This is a tale of true hearts
In a book that will never close
For I have tasted a love so sweet
Whose kiss feels like the petals of a rose.
