Poetry: Friendship & Soulmates
It Wasn't....
by NancyJean Bryan

It wasn’t your words upon my screen,
It wasn’t the sound of your voice on the phone.
It wasn’t your eyes so deeply blue
It was nothing so superficial; it was the essence of you.

The first night we met, face to face,
You ignited a fire in my core
One I had sworn would never rise again,
I thought I had sealed that door.

Something happened when I met you,
Something I said never would.
I learned I could live, feel, laugh and dream
As any grown woman should.

You challenged my intellect,
You challenged my emotions,
You challenged me physically.
Daring my shattered soul to become whole again.

It was your soul, your spirit, that touched my heart deep,
The challenges you laid before me,
The nights that I could hardly sleep
Praying someday to be worthy, in your eyes, a treasure to keep.

Then one day you disappeared,
And became, once more, only words on a screen.
Though in my heart you will live forever,
The love that could have been.
