Poetry: Friendship & Soulmates
When You Were Born
by Barbara Nichols

When you were born
I heard you cry
even though you were still inside.
The doctor said, "he's okay".
This is a good sign,
And then you were born all the way.
When you were grown
I heard you cry
There was something wrong deep inside.
Something is missing.
You don't feel whole,as evil and good tug at your soul.
"This is a good sign," Jesus said to me.
"He's struggling hard to be set free."
"He needs to decide either the world or me."
When you were born, I heard you cry
Even though there was joy inside.
Jesus said, "He's ok"
and you were born again all the way.
The missing part has been replaced
when you met Christ face to face.
He took your sadness and your distress.
He gave you peace and let you rest
in His arms where you are blessed
Stay in his arms, safe and secure
and feel no alarm
for He is here to
give you cheer
as his love and warmth
removes all your fears.
When you die, and are in the grave
and he comes back, you will raise up
out of the ground
that is like a womb
holding you until
it is time to come forth
like when you were born.
