The Call to War
by Mark Bernshtam
Oh, the dreaded call to war
I had a flashback from Iraq
I fought alongside friends, in 8th corps
And when i heard the call, i knew i could not ignore
I suited up, and waited, for the bomb bay doors to unlock.
Oh, the dreaded call to war
The door was opened, and the light was green – I was scared to the core
I jumped into Afghanistan, at precisely 12 o'clock.
I fought alongside friends, in 8th corps
It was quiet, a good change from before
And there, a shape, i squeeze the trigger once – a crack
Oh, the dreaded call to war
One by one, the enemy falls to the floor
Our Sergeant was wounded; we sheltered him behind a rock.
I fought alongside friends, in 8th corps.
I do not wish to kill anymore
But into Kabul we walk
Oh, the dreaded call to war
We fought alongside friends, in 8th corps.
