Poetry: Friendship & Soulmates
Your Life Mine
by Jess

I was so independent.
Priding myself in never needing
Never wanting anyone
So why now
Does it feel so good
to need you?
I hear you breathe
And it is the sound
Of my own breath
For as long
As you breathe
So do I
And no longer.
The warmth from
Lying close to you
Heats my body
For otherwise
I would freeze.
Your sweet kisses
Linger on my lips
They nourish me
And I do not starve.
Your voice washes over me
Like rain
Rhythmic
Smooth and rippling
Deep and sweet
And my thirst
Is quenched.
The band of your arms
Encircles me
As a shield
Keeping out the demons
And sheltering me.
For one who lived so long
Haughty and sure
I wonder why
I need you.
Your life is mine
And without you
I would have none.
I wonder if I lived before.
