I'm a poet
by Ed Griffith
I'M A POET!
When I tell I am a poet,
I feel terribly meek.
I wonder if there's wonder
at what kind of attention I seek?
Yes, one of each.
But poetry also gives me reach
for freedom from dogma,
so that who I am
cannot be statistically verified
with norms and means,
and such averaging liens.
I want license to be
different,
free,
and me.
No matter how it's always been done,
or said,
I beg the liberty
to pose an instead.
