Poetry: Friendship & Soulmates
To Walk in the sunlight once more
by merliyn

To walk in the sunlight once more
was a dream I learned to forget.
My days were meaningless details,
my nights were filled with regret.
The woman I was meant to be had completely escaped my grasp. How did I get so lost from her
was the question I would ask.
Then one night near Christmas, a friend took me aside.
He kissed my cheek and held my hand, the attention made me cry.
For days I kept on thinking what do I deserve?
Do I dare indulge myself? What purpose would be served?
It came to me one night by the lake, as my tears
froze to my cheeks.
I don't deserve such lonliness, it's happiness I seek.
Since then ,my friend and I have spent some very sweet times. He makes me feel special and I pray one day, he'll be mine.
But you see, you don't own the friends you make. That's not what friends are for. They're people who help you find a way TO WALK IN THE SUNLIGHT ONCE MORE.
