Poetry: Heartbreak & Healing
A flightless bird on a tall cliff
by Allen Steble

I am so gullible, so fallible, so stupid
I look at where i want to go anxiously
So anxiously i do not care about the consequences
I do not consider the deep fall
I take my run up, build up speed and spread my wings
My excitement is high, my expectations even higher
I leap from the cliff, the cliff oh so tall
For a small second i defy gravity
Then i fall
Long enough only to realize how stupid i was
Stupid enough to be fooled into trusting you
i rush to the earth like sound in a metal pipe
There is no turning back now, i shall face my fall
How could you let this happen to me
I am a flightless bird on a tall cliff
