Poetry: Heartbreak & Healing
Stranger
by Karey Edgar

I cannot understand the words you say, when you put me down and walk away.
My hearts in pain, my soul is sore.
Please stop leaving me, I can't take no more.
Feels so strange when I look at you, like we've meant before but who are you?
Keep telling myself it's different this time, he's here to stay and he's part of my life.
But the truth so true, stares me right in the face.
I've done it this time; I'm right back in this place.
It must be my fault, what is it I do to make it so easy for you to go?
Unconditional love, well if that's not a crock.
The only love you have is for yourself, like that's a shock.
Those long lasting weekends that never end, when I'm crying with heartache like I've lost my best friend.
Waited all night but you'd never show, some excuse the next day but it's too late don't you know.
I've grown so quick, learned a lot in my years.
Be thankful for what I have, and save my tears.
Not worth the cry, not any more.
The time will come to even the score, to make things right and fix the pain.
But the truth be told, a father you might be a Dad you never were.
