Poetry: Heartbreak & Healing
Oh, Lonely Road
by Ray Dumo

Oh, lonely road, how I've traveled you so,
My body is tired and weary, but my heart wants to go.

It wants to be free, to feel passion, to love,
It wishes that heaven would send love from above.

And as I walk through the road, I take note of my past,
It reminds me of missed opportunity, and I wish for my
courage to last.

As the road gets darker, more complicated, and dreary,
My body aches for a companion to be near me.

Just as the road takes a turn for the worse,
I realize that my heart will forever be cursed.

For I may never find love again, of this I am certain,
And my heart will close its final curtain.

But wait! Who is that at the end of the road I see?
Could it be that someone is waiting for me?
Could it be? Could it be? I'm so excited to see,
Is she waving me down, is she smiling at me?

My pace quickens, my heart gleams with delight,
Is she someone that I could be with this night?

Can I tell her my dreams, my secrets and desires?
Can she quench this heart of mine, this heart of fire?

All I want is to love, and be loved in return,
Is this too much to ask? Am I destined to burn?

Should I take this risk? Is this new love?
Is she the one sent to me from above?

Should I take a leap, and let faith guide my actions?
Should I risk getting hurt? Is she just a distraction?

Alas, I have no answers to all these questions...
My mind is confused...my heart is in shambles...

Oh, lonely road, how I've traveled you so,
My body is tired and weary, but my heart wants to go...

Dedicated to Kate
