Poetry: Unrequited Love
Hollow In My Heart
by Ashley

Open your heart to me
I know what you see
Why do you refuse this love
Why do you refuse me

I know that you want me
But that’s not the person you want to be
Your image would be shattered
Not that it mattered
But how could you notice
You’re too caught up living a lie

I thought that I meant something
Once upon a time
That’s all empty now
There’s a hollow in my heart
The place were you once were is just a shadow
And the loneliness of night consumes each day
Even when I try
I just fumble in the dark
The love that lit my way has been removed

If I had just one question to be answered
I would ask why you turned away
Why you backed away from me
But even you don’t know the answer
And my tears can’t wash away the pain
I’ve been mended
But I’ll never heal
There’s a hollow in my heart
