Poetry: Unrequited Love
my sons will trust, too
by unnamed

He
had a sign
I could see
pinned on by
a home-mom
"The Whole World
Loves Meeee!"

And so did I.

Guess girls
Just cry,
You jerk.

My MEAN mom
stole her pins
from work
to stab the
"Kick Me" signs
into my back
and thank everyone
who's ever hurt me.

When I stopped
reading
for a year or two
I'd forget the sign,
Whisper, "I Love
You..." He
appreciated that.

So would I, I guess...
But I've got nothing more
to offer and what's less:
I just got plenty to steal.

I like to pretend you.
If that's better than real,
So be it. My phone
Stopped ringing once I
stopped calling people
Who didn't call me:

Shame on me
for believing you.

I can read the sign now.
