Poetry: Unrequited Love
mixed emotions, empty heart
by Sheron P. Brathwaite

I kiss your shoulder as you walk away
I know that it doesn't really matter,
shall you go or shall you stay
you're aloof, true emotions don't exist
this, no more than a mediocre tryst
a pawn in your game of hearts
a moist spot to be temporarily shared
moments that meant nothing, never really cared
lies rolled freely off of your tongue
truth can not be heard, but as my ears rung

silence fell over your beautiful lips
like butter, you melted at my fingertips
pliable, easy, a smooth move made bold
conversed on a level so deep, soul to soul
reached for your heart, encountered an empty hole
a barren space, where nothing, not even love can grow
where I took a wrong turn, I really don't know
shall I go or shall I stay
I know, it doesn't really matter
you kiss my shoulder as I walk away...
