Poetry: Unrequited Love
Confession of a Lost Romeo
by Adhitya Katkam

I spend my nights dreaming of you,
And you haunt my nightly rest,
Through my mind you often flew,
Placing turmoil within my breast.

My love for you is strong and true,
As the ancient oak’s wooden crest,
Grown in the soil of my love for you,
Awaiting at length its test.

The milky skin that encloses you,
Is the universe’s finest chest,
Across this silk my heart once blew,
And by your soul, ‘twas lightly caressed.

Oh! The depth of the great starry blue,
Cannot shame itself against your best,
For there is further depth within you,
In which one could forever rest.

This solemn song I’ll not come to rue,
And though I may seem to arrest,
Though my love for you is sturdy and true,
My love, I fear, you’ll contest.
