On What I Never Asked For
by Venus
I don't know why
But you got me to thinking.
I fall back on memories
And turn to my inner wisdom.
Lately, knowing what she'd say,
I have uncharacteristically ignored her.
But she is here
With me today.
What good does it do, Old Friend,
To grant me what I wished for
Many years ago?
For me, the past always ran dry.
And why are you here now?
To make a statement of fate?
To make up for what simply shouldn't matter anymore?
And now we know what might have been.
And know we've faced what's true
So why are you still here, today?
What is it we are clinging to?
