Poetry: Secret Love
Dreams Unfurled
by David

Sara soft as summer sun
Softest kiss against my tongue
Sultry dances pass the night
Sad to meet you in this light

Close my eyes and start to dream
Vainly grasping at the seams
Deaf ears soon deny my screams

Later on we finally talk
Entwining fingers, start to walk
Scenery changing quickly here
Now and then you disappear

Infantile bedding bears
A small outline with curly hair
Now a toddler runs around
Speeding up and slowing down

A five year old gets on a bus
First day of school, mom makes a fuss
Fifth grade now, a spelling bee
She wins with the word 'beautifully'

Freshman year has been a blur
Tenth, eleventh, gone to her
Prom arrives, a pretty girl
Into a woman hear unfurls

The next year she becomes obsessed
With partying instead of tests
The drugs have made her life a mess

Which brings her here into this place
She keeps her feelings off her face
She smiles so they cannot see
She hates what she has come to be

Someone softly touches skin
And rouses me from sleep within
Open eyes and see my setting
Sleep forgot and me forgetting

Empty now yet she remains
Mulling over ancient pains
Smiles as she sees me wake
Hoping I can ease the ache

Much as I love her, in this scene
I long to fall into that dream
Before the drugs and dancing days
Before the life lived in a haze

Where she was just a little girl
With rosy cheeks and curly hair
Before the woman here unfurled
