Poetry: Life Long Love
Together forever
by Mark Thompson

It was the end of a long day for the elderly couple.
As they climbed in to bed together.
They turned, and gave one another a kiss. And said" I love you."
As they had every night since the day they said" I do".
When they were 75 yrs younger.
She slowly reached over, for the pull chain of her lamp,
on her bed side table.
With a blink the light was out.
She stirred him awake. As she had, been doing for yrs.
He too slowly rolled over and out went his light.
In the still of the darkness.
He told her, he was always happy for the day he said" I do."
She told him, "I have loved you more everyday since the day I said," I do."
They both drifted off to sleep.
Not knowing what the night would bring.
This night would bring them together longer than before.
For as they slept. their breath was silenced.
And there hearts slowed to a stop.
For in death we are together, not apart.
Together forever.
