Poetry: Life Long Love
Autumn
by Thu Nguyen

AUTUMN

The fire burns and the spark flickers.
The aroma of the logs over takes my senses.
Outside, the red and golden leaves, like feathers descending from the sky,
Against the backdrop of a pink sunset and across the bluest of sea.

The waves splash against the shore in synchrony with the whisper of the wind.
I can feel the warmth of the hot chocolate against my lips.
Oh how I am reminded of your kiss.
Last year, this time you were just sitting across from me.

Roasting the marshmallows and sipping your green tea.
I had kept wondering how I could be so lucky.
To be there with you enjoying the scenery.
I can not remember the last autumn when I was so happy.

Autumn has come and autumn has gone since.
I am still sitting at this window, looking into the garden and at the changing threes.
But unlike the predictable seasons, springs followed by summer, fall and then winter.
Life was not as predictable for you and I.

So here I am sitting all by myself.
Sipping my hot chocolate.
And wondering where you might be.
And if the falling leaves are reminding you of
me.
